TEACHING READING: YESTERDAY, TODAY, AND TOMORROW
In the Yesterday perspective, Pearson reminds us of exemplary practices that are still worth keeping in your teaching tool kit-precisely because they have stood both the test of time and the test of validation through careful scholarship, including the scholarship of teacher practice. In the Today section of his talk, Pearson focuses on everybody's favorite topic-"How will the Common Core State Standards" serve the interests of students and teachers in promoting good practices for teachers and even better learning opportunities for students? Finally in the Tomorrow finale, Pearson speculates about the impact of forces that are likely to exert increasing influence on learning to read and write, namely technology, accountability, and poverty.
