With the rigorous Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), we need effective literacy practices for English learners that extend beyond narrative text. In this session, we will explore the language demands that English learners (and other students) need to meet the new literacy and content standards. Using examples from both sets of standards, we will model cross-curricular instructional techniques for enhancing literacy development, with a focus on academic vocabulary and comprehension.
