This session will focus on building content area knowledge with K-3 learners while strengthening their literacy skills. Along with encouraging participants to rethink the types of text used with students, participants will take a closer look at what the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for the English Language Arts require of our students. Practical strategies which can be used to incorporate the reading, writing, and thinking skills inherent in the CCSS across content areas and throughout the school day will be shared.

•Make powerful content connections
•Rethink the use of texts
•Weave ELA CCSS throughout the content areas
•Use practical strategies for building content knowledge and strengthening literacy skills
