Description

Using mentor texts to foster deep reading and writing experiences for learners is how we create "Teachable Moments." As students learn to engage with short passages of texts that are narrative, informational, and opinion/argumentative, they become excited about learning-an important step for teachers to create dynamic literacy classrooms. During this workshop, participants will see that using mentor texts frees them to differentiate and teach students no matter where they are-and move them forward. Regardless of students' socio-economic conditions or background knowledge, teacher modeling with mentor texts can close critical literacy gaps.
