Workshop Half Day
Galt House Hotel
Room: Azalea
One of the core responsibilities of a product steward is ensuring marketability and compliance, but this is difficult when the number and complexity of global chemical management regulations are increasing. Establishing strategies to track, interpret, advocate for, and prepare for emerging and changing regulations is extremely challenging.
This workshop examines various options for completing each of these steps and discusses their pros and cons. The goal of this workshop is not only for participants to develop strategies to ensure marketability and compliance but to also be engaged partners in the development of effective, science-based, and fit-for-purpose chemical management regulations. This half-day workshop is specifically designed for mid-career professionals who are looking to enhance their core competencies and are able to participate in these discussions. However, this workshop is also appropriate for early career product stewards who are seeking new responsibilities, industrial hygienists and other environmental health and safety professionals who want to better understand regulatory surveillance and advocacy, and other aligned professionals within the legal, public affairs, and business fields who are involved in advocacy activities.
After completing this workshop, participants will be able to:
• Understand the four steps of managing emerging and changing chemical management regulations.
• Analyze the options for tracking, interpreting, advocating for, and preparing for emerging and changing chemical management regulations.
• Create strategies for ensuring marketability and compliance.
• Create strategies for ensuring effective, science-based, and fit-for-purpose chemical management regulations.
After a round of introductions, this workshop will cover the role of product stewards in marketability and compliance and then move into a discussion of tracking, interpreting, advocating for, and preparing for new and changing chemical regulations. After providing a series of concrete examples, the workshop will offer an opportunity for exchange, discussion, and feedback.
